Gas Engine Conversion

Gas engine conversion is fuel conversion of engine from liquid fuel to gas fuel. The basic engine in each conversion setup is an ordinary fuel oil engine, on which the gas feeding system is mounted. Older engines type, that have been running on liquid fuel oil can be converted to gas, dual fuel or multi fuel engines.

Any type of gas engine conversion :
1.GAS DIESEL ENGINE
In GAS Diesel the gas is injected in the cylinders
after compression of charge air.



2. LEAN BURN ENGINE WITH DUAL FUEL PRINCIPLE
In DF engine the gas is mixed with charge air before cylinder
and the ignition of gas / air mixture will be with pilot fuel
injection (micro pilot injection).




3. LEAN BURN ENGINE WITH SPARK PLUG IGNITION
In Spark plug Gas engine gas is mixed with charge air before cylinder
and the richer gas / air mixture in prechamber is ignited
with a spark plug.



GAS DIESEL OPERATING MODE
The operating modes of gas diesel is:
Diesel mode
– Diesel fuel operation only
– As an ordinary diesel engine
 Gas mode
– Diesel fuel operation at start and low load
– Automatic transfer between fuels according to load
– Automatic and instant transfer in alarm situations

DUAL FUEL OPERATING MODE
The operating mode of dual combustion is:
 Gas mode
- Automatic and instant transfer to diesel operation in alarm situations
- Transfer to diesel operation at any load
 Diesel mode
- As an ordinary diesel engine
- Transfer to gas operation at lower load
- Pilot fuel injection in operation

Cause of gas is a pure fuel so have any benefit :
- Maintenance cost of plant decreases
- Component lifetime extended
- Oil change interval is prolonged

Conversion benefits based on fuel operational aspects
- Fuel flexibility
- Possibility to operate on LFO, HFO and Natural Gas
- Dual fuel or even Tri-fuel capability
- Instant switch-over from one fuel to another
- Instant switch-over from gas to LFO operation at full load
